Midnight in Cairo

Some years ago I created this blog in order to talk about Egyptological topics, but I had to abandon it because of lack of time. Nevertheless, I have thought that I could continue it now to post in it a series of short articles about my experiences, thoughts, and adventures in general during the next month, in which I will be working in the excavations of the Temple of Mut at Karnak. About this blog, I am recovering it after almost four years because both its title and its objectives are still valid, and because I still like the design that I made for it then. However, I will renovate it progressively. For those of you who did not know the blog before, you will notice that its environment is in English, and that the introductory article says that the publications will be done in this language. Being myself an enthusiast and student of ancient and modern languages alike, I must correct the previous assertion. This blog, like the Tower of Babel, will have articles in many languages, mainly Spanish and English, and will be about many more, if everything works properly.

Another reason for using this blog is that I can start sharing experiences with you all tonight. After an intense semester of studies and research, and many kilometers traveled by plane, train or car, tonight I have arrived to Cairo. At this very moment I am resting at the airport hotel, from where I will depart tomorrow for Luxor. We will start our work at the Temple of Mut on Saturday. In the next articles I will add the links to the official excavation diary, where you can access the information about our findings. Through this blog, however, you will learn about what happens between racks, this is, the other activities that the team will be doing during these days.

With a beautiful crescent moon in my window, I say goodbye for today. Tomorrow will be another day of travels, which will take me to the place that the Greeks called Thebes and the ancient Egyptians Waset, or simply Nu, “the city.”
