Good evening, Luxor!

Hace una hora aproximadamente he llegado a mi destino, Luxor. La primera impresión al salir del avión para tomar el bus hasta la terminal ha sido el calor, 45 grados centígrados, así como un cielo nublado en el que, hacia el oeste, podía distinguirse un blanquecino disco solar, descendiendo lentamente hasta que finalmente ha desaparecido. Tras obtener mi maleta, me he llevado la grata sorpresa de ver que habían mandado un coche a buscarme desde el hotel (yo ya iba pensando en cómo iba a coger un taxi, el ferry para cruzar el Nilo, y otro taxi para llegar al hotel). El coche me ha llevado hacia el sur, para cruzar el Nilo por uno de los tan poco habituales puentes, y atravesando las calles, y los campos de cultivo, he podido observar el bullicio vespertino de las villas egipcias, las animadas conversaciones, los coches que, al cruzarse, encienden brevemente los faros… estoy de nuevo en Egipto.

Actualmente estoy ya en la habitación en el Hotel Amon, que tiene aire acondicionado, algo que se agradece. El año pasado estuvimos cenando en este hotel, que cuenta con un agradable jardín tropical excelente para relajarse al final del día. Hoy cenaremos en una hora, a las ocho de la tarde, y después trataré de conectar el ordenador a la red de wifi (que no está colaborando demasiado), para poder subir este pequeño artículo. Sobre la mañana poco tengo que decir, ya que básicamente la he aprovechado para descansar, caminar por los jardines del hotel, y resolver algunos asuntos administrativos a través de Internet. Mañana comienza el trabajo, así que habrá que retirarse a dormir pronto.

An hour ago, approximately, I have arrived to my destination, Luxor. The first impression getting out of the plane to take the bus to the terminal has been the heat, 45 degrees Celsius, together with a cloudy sky in which, to the west, a whitish sun disk was visible descending slowly until disappearing. After obtaining my suitcase, I have received the great surprise of finding out that the hotel had sent a car to pick me up (I was already thinking of how I was going to take a taxi, the ferry to cross the Nile, and another taxi to get to the hotel). The car has taken me southwards, in order to cross the Nile through one of the not very frequent bridges. While driving through the streets and the fields, I have been observing the evening hustle of the Egyptian villages, the lively conversations, the cars that, when seeing each other, switch on the lights momentarily… I am back in Egypt.

At this moment I am in my room at the Amon Hotel, which has air conditioning, something that is much appreciated at this moment. Last year we had dinner in this hotel once, in its tropical garden, which is a very nice place to relax at the end of the day. Today we will have dinner in an hour, at 8:00pm, and later I will try to connect my computer to the wifi network (which has not been responding until this moment), in order to upload this short article. I do not have much to say about this morning, since I have basically spent it relaxing, walking in the gardens of the hotel and solving some administrative issues through the Internet. Tomorrow we will start working, so we will go to bed early today.
