Dibujos y museo.

Esta mañana hemos seguido dibujando las estructuras del corte. Debido al calor, no podemos pasar demasiado tiempo directamente al sol dibujando o tomando medidas, por lo que el trabajo no va tan rápido como durante las campañas invernales. Este año tenemos un grupo de estudiantes de Hopkins a quienes estamos enseñando los distintos trabajos que se realizan en una excavación. Su gran entusiasmo e interés hace que el trabajo vaya más rápido. A las once hemos tenido que dejar el trabajo, ya que el calor era asfixiante. Cruzando el Nilo, hemos regresado al hotel, donde nos esperaba una comida deliciosa.

A las tres de la tarde, dado que ya hemos recibido los permisos del Servicio de Antigüedades que, como arqueólogos, nos permiten acceder a la mayoría de sitios arqueológicos y museos de forma gratuita, hemos decidido visitar el Museo de Luxor, ya que los estudiantes no han estado anteriormente en Egipto. Con nuestra barca habitual hemos vuelto a cruzar a la orilla este, parando directamente frente al museo. La visita ha sido interesante, con algunos momentos de emoción por parte de los estudiantes al ver piezas conocidas a través de libros o de clases (como la Estela de Kamose). Yo he podido también comprobar cómo, tras las clases de este pasado curso, puedo apreciar con mayor detalle muchas de las piezas expuestas.

This morning we have continued drawing the structures of the trench. Because of the heat, we cannot spend a lot of time in the sun drawing or taking measurements, so the work does not go as fast as during the winter. This year we have a group of students from Hopkins, to whom we are teaching how to do the different tasks of an excavation. Their enthusiasm and great interest makes work go a lot faster. However, at 11am we had to stop working, because the heat was unbearable. Crossing the Nile, we have returned to the hotel, where a delicious meal was waiting for us.

At 3pm, since we have already received the permits from the Supreme Council of Antiquities that, as archaeologists, allow us to enter in the majority of archaeological sites and museums for free, we have decided to go to the Luxor Museum and take the undergrads, who have not been in Egypt before. With our regular boat, we have crossed again to the east bank, and we have stopped in front of the museum. The visit has been really interesting, with some exciting moments for the students, like when they have seen objects that they knew from their books or classes (like the Stela of Kamose). I have been able to see how, after the classes of these past two semester, I can appreciate with more detail many of the artifacts.
