A world of books, paradise of a bibliophile

I have always loved getting lost among the shelves. Time suddenly slows down while I wander around, looking at both sides of those corridors made of rows of books ready to be discovered. Volumes of all condition, new, old, cheap editions or very special ones, bound in leather or even in reused parchment, can be discovered on the shelves. Libraries can be considered as temples of knowledge that can be accessed by actions as simple as pulling a book from the shelf, opening it and letting each page progressively unveil its secrets. The smell of paper, the texture of it, the sound of pages turning… everything contributes to create a magic atmosphere. But libraries are not only places where books are kept. In the Ancient World, libraries were meeting places, spaces where scholars, students and other different types of people met to share their opinions, to discuss about a myriad of topics.

Please, be welcome to my virtual library, a space dedicated to the absorbing world of books and the captivating discipline of Egyptology. This is a library in the ancient sense of it, where I will share bits of my knowledge about Egyptology and other topics, mainly philological and historical, with the aim of starting interesting discussions. Here you will find information about books of different kinds, from rolls (papyri, parchment, etc.) to codex format (our modern books) and maybe also some others (like that of the mayan manuscripts). I will write in English, and I beg your pardon for the mistakes I will make, as it is not my mother language. It will be, however, a good practice. You can write your comments either in English or in Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese or German.

As your librarian, let me conclude by introducing myself. I have been deeply fascinated by books since I was a small girl, a true bibliophile. I love discovering new topics unknown to me till that moment, and being able to relate ones to the others, building, brick by brick, book by book, a growing knowledge of the world. When I was a child I was interested in many different topics, from Astronomy to Biology and Literature, but progressively I began to focus my attention on ancient civilizations, and especially on ancient Egyptian language and hieroglyphic writing. Throughout these years I have acquired many books, creating a rather complete library about, primarily, Egyptology, ancient languages and cultures and Archaeology. Nowadays I am a student of Egyptology, specialized in philology.
